A Glorious 30th To The King Of Fighters, Part 2 — Dream Matches
In the 30 years, the KOF franchise squeezed out four “dream match” titles.
SNK’s The King of Fighters (KOF) franchise is 30 F–KING YEARS OLD!!!
Mainstream lore contained four sagas to date with the current “Verse Saga” taking the story full circle.
There’s so much in the franchise’s story continuity, but there’s more than just the main titles. There are a couple of “dream match” titles to mention. There’s normally a dream match title in between sagas, which gives the developers time to create a new saga.
Four dream match titles exist in the franchise.
The King Of Fighters ‘98
After the “Orochi Saga” ended with The King of Fighters ’97, SNK developed The King of Fighters ’98 (which was called KOF ’98: Dream Match Never Ends or KOF ’98: The Slug Fest) for arcades in 1998.
Because it’s a “dream match,” KOF ’98 has no story.
This begins the non-canonical dream match series.
