Husband-and-wife duo Sean and Lori, friendly acquaintances of mine, hold a series of pop culture events across the county I live in. Their biggest event is Syfy Bartow, which is usually held on the third Saturday of every February and is the largest free convention in the southeast United States.
Roughly 20,000 people attended Syfy Bartow 2024.
As Syfy Bartow grew, the couple created other major events, such as PrehistoriCon in Mulberry every April and The Sorting Hat Celebration every November. The couple also created an official convention called Bartow Con, which had its inaugural launch last year in October. Its second event happened in August, though they’re talking about pushing the date back to October.
