Happy 35th Anniversary To Kentaro Miura’s Berserk
Kentaro Miura’s dark and gritty masterpiece lives on and continues to influence.
On August 25, 1989, a manga began its serial run in a publication called Monthly Animal House and continued to the present day as one of the most popular stories to be told.
That series is Berserk.
We’re almost through with August and it’s 2024, which means the ongoing manga is 35 years old today. It’s amazing and impressive that Berserk has continued for three and a half decades with no intention of stopping anytime soon, hiatuses notwithstanding.
Creator Kentaro Miura (who wrote and illustrated the series) was born on July 11, 1966, in Chiba, Japan. He started as a mangaka at 10 years old with the creation of Miuranger for his classmates in a school publication that went on for 40 volumes.
Miura continued learning and improving through the years and briefly worked for George Morikawa the creator of the Boxing manga Hajime no Ippo (which has received multiple game and anime adaptations). Morikawa dismissed Miura from the job so he could spread his wings and fly.
