Native American Heritage Month ’22: Know Your Native American Fighting Game Characters
This piece is dedicated to all the known fighting game characters of Native American heritage.
November in the United States is dedicated to Native American History Month and Native American Heritage Day takes place the Friday after each Thanksgiving. As a fighting game fan, I wanted to write this piece that honors all known characters with Native American heritage. In fighting games, there have been at least one or two characters in the playable roster who are of Native American origin.
#1 — T. Hawk
T. Hawk, in my belief, is the first Native American to be featured in a fighting game let alone a Street Fighter title. This hulking, but agile as f — k fighter made his debut in Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers, whose stage is in Mexico. T. Hawk’s story centers on fighting M. Bison, leader of the secretive and highly dangerous Shadaloo organization, who stole the land belonging to T. Hawk’s tribe, the Thunderfoot Tribe.
