Old-School Fighting Games: Avengers in Galactic Storm
This 2.5D title is the earliest Marvel Comics-themed fighting game.
It was 1994 and my youngest uncle, along with his fiance, took my cousin and me to watch Independence Day. One of the things my uncle and I looked forward to at the movie theater was playing arcade games.
I’m a fan of Marvel Comics and this one game caught my attention, Avengers in Galactic Storm. I was curious about the game because it was a Marvel Comics-themed fighting game and I had played X-Men: Children of the Atom which came out a few years prior.
The game’s story is adapted from the Avengers crossover arc “Operation: Galactic Storm” which spanned 19 issues across Avengers, Avengers: West Coast, Iron Man, Thor, Wonder Man, and Quasar.
The gameplay is typical of any standard fighting game like Street Fighter II, Fatal Fury, etc.
