Even though the intentions are good, especially with the anti-AAPI violence in the wake of COVID-19, these self-defense seminars are going to get more people hurt.

2020 and beyond has been mega ultra “it’s over 9000” sh — ty for Asian diasporic communities around the world, especially for the communities living in North America. Asian-Americans have been discriminated against, let alone attacked, for a long time. In today’s world, where virtually anybody and everybody can capture media on their mobile devices, attacks against Asians are getting captured frequently to the point where the media can’t ignore it.

We shouldn’t forget the part about the people vying for political power taking advantage of the situation, either.

Asians are often scapegoated for many reasons like economic hardship, which UCFToday reports, that led to the murder of Vincent Chin in 1982. Chin was a Chinese-American autoworker who was targeted to white auto workers because they were fearful of their jobs because of competition by the Japanese auto companies.
