We almost had a raptor character for ‘Street Fighter III?’ Bring the dinos on, fighting games can’t really go wrong on dinos!

In celebration of the 35th anniversary of Capcom’s ‘Street Fighter,’ a Twitter page released early character concept art, in which one of the main roster characters could have been a velociraptor.

This is early concept art by Akiman, the designer behind Capcom’s Street Fighter III.

This year is the 35th anniversary of Capcom’s successful fighting game franchise, Street Fighter, with the first title hitting arcades worldwide in 1987. The first title was mostly ignored but its sequel, Street Fighter II, put the franchise on the map. Ten years later, since the first title was released, Capcom released Street Fighter III: The Next Generation, then released Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact some months later.

Street Fighter III wouldn’t gain major recognition, compared to Street Fighter II and Street Fighter Alpha, until 1999, when Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike was released, along with an urban motif too.

To celebrate the franchise’s 35th anniversary the Twitter account of Cap’Artwork posted character concept art by Akira Yasuda aka “Akiman.” He was responsible for the original artwork for the Street Fighter III franchise and Street Fighter III
